Mark E Quark - Bassix, 1994

This is my Bassix cassette mix from way back in 1994 for your listening & download pleasure. This was my obligatory 'breakbeat house' mix and has early material from Le Funk Mob, Chemical Brothers (when they were still known as the Dust Brothers), plus DJ Spun's first record, Central Fire, which is all over this mix. In fact, side 2 is completely structured around this record! I not only thought it was the greatest record ever made at the time, but it was an excellent mixing tool that I could pretty much layer with anything and mix for ages and that I did. :-) I lived for records like this!

At the same time I was putting this 'tape" together, 'trip hop' and 'ambient dub' were brand new genres coming up that were also explored in this mix. I also incorporated some of my favorite house records at the time like David Morales & The Bad Yard Club "Gimme Luv" & Coup d'Etat - that mysterious house white label sampling Janis Joplin's "Ball & Chain".

Special thanks to Craig & Kelli Moreno for lending me the tape for this project! These mixes are both downloadable and were encoded at 320 kbps. I hope you enjoy this blast from the past.
